“An Idiot Abroad” (7 p.m., repeated at 9:30 p.m., Science Channel). Series premiere. Meet Karl Pilkington. He’s a friend and podcasting partner of Ricky Gervais, has a head shaped like an orange and a, shall we say, “unique” view of life. And he hates to travel. So of course Gervais sent him around the world to experience other cultures and generally have a miserable time doing it. Call it an elaborate sociological experiment/practical joke. Whatever it is, it sounds very, very funny.
